ALCOHOLISMThere's every chance you know someone with a drinking problem, it could even be you. In the United States and now in most of Europe, problems with alcohol is quite a common occurrence. According to the eminent Charles H. Halsted, M.D., chief of clinical nutrition and metabolism University California, 'Two thirds of all Americans drink' and 'Sixty percent are light to moderate, but up to ten percent drink excessively'. What we are concerned with here are the excessive drinkers in all countries including the USA. The most common attributes you will find in sufferers of alcoholism in the Western countries is that a vast majority of them suffer from malnutrition and other nutritional deficiencies, which lead to other alcoholism conditions such as hypoglycaemia, chronic fatigue, adrenal insufficiency, and cravings for other things such as sweets, drinks and other types of snacks. Alcoholic beverages are full of empty calories i.e. they could be getting the right amount of daily calories from the drink, but as to them being any good - they are not. There is no nutritional value to empty calories whatsoever. Not only that alcohol has a direct toxic effect on the gastrointestinal tract.
