BAD BREATH

(Halitosis)

This is occasionally a sign of an illness, but is usually simply caused by:

  • Eating onions
  • Eating garlic
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Smoking

Persistent bad breath could be caused from a mouth infection, sinusitis or a lung disorder such as bronchiectasis which is a lung disorder where one or more of the bronchi or air passages leading from the trachea (windpipe) are distorted and stretched and therefore have damaged linings. This used to be quite common and was caused from a childhood chest infection such as measles, tuberculosis, pertussis (whooping cough) or a severe bacterial pneumonia.

Most cases of bad breath are definitely caused by a gastro-intestinal disorder, chronic constipation or slow-moving intestinal output. This in turn causes waste matter to be expelled by the lungs which means that the foul smelling waste products eliminated by the lungs are excreted through the nose and mouth hence bad breath.

The cause being constipation or sluggish intestines is what needs to be treated to correct the complaint. A very common cause of bad breath is the lack of digestion or very slow digestion of animal proteins or a deficiency of gastric enzymes and putrefaction of proteins due to overeating...(more)
