VARICOSE VEINSIt is very common for people to have varicose veins, in fact about 3 in 10 women are affected by them at some time. This is about half the amount as men sufferers. They are usually found on the legs and are swollen veins that look bluish and lumpy through the skin. So which of the veins become varicose? There are two sorts that can become varicose, the long saphenous vein (LSV) and the short long saphenous vein (SSV). The ones that most often form varicose veins are the long saphenous and its tributaries. This vein is formed from tributaries in the foot, and the time it is most visible is when the person is standing, It runs up the inner side of the calf and up into the thigh on the inner side of the ankle. When it reaches the groin it turns inward in a sort of dive and then joins the femoral vein (the main deep vein). The tributaries of the SSV can also become varicose, but not as often as the LSV. it starts just behind the outer side of the ankle on the bone, and runs the back on in the middle of the calf. This vein also takes a dive and joins the femoral vein, but it does this just above the knee...(more) Beneficial Treatments...(more)
